I recently joined Habitat For Humanity Missoula to lead the “Innovation” team. We research and explore new building methods, business models, and sustainable technologies. In addition we collaborate with other teams on funding strategies and community outreach. My first assignment was to draft our “Core Ideologies”, which never change. These are meant to serve as a guiding light so that when tough decisions are necessary these can provide the answer.
- “Shelter” All people have a right to shelter and safety.
- “Ownership” All people deserve the opportunity of home ownership and security in well built, sustainable homes.
- “Contribution” All H4H home owners shall contribute either their time, work, or both to the building of the home.
- “Obligation” The Government has an obligation to enable affordable (attainable) housing through legislation, regulation and subsidies.
- “Responsibility” The community has a responsibility and a moral obligation to ensure this opportunity by providing volunteer workers and financial assistance.
Our Mission Statement is:
We endeavor to build a world where everyone has a decent place to live. We apply construction techniques that conserve natural resources and reduce long-term costs for Habitat homeowners. The result is to help people raise themselves to another level and contribute to society, while also paying their way and carrying on the affordability legacy.
